#49: Not What We Expected
The size of a kiwi bird egg is quite impressive, considering the bird’s small stature. Kiwi eggs are one of the largest proportional to body size among all bird species. They are approximately the size of a chicken egg, which is remarkable when you consider that kiwi birds are much smaller than chickens.

These unique birds, native to New Zealand, have adapted to lay eggs that are a significant fraction of their body size, making their reproduction strategy one of the many intriguing aspects of these flightless, nocturnal creatures. The size of kiwi bird eggs reflects the evolutionary trade-offs necessary for their survival in their unique ecological niche.
