History is a funny thing. Time flows ever onward, and things happen, sometimes at the same time. And with how disconnected things can be from one another, be it by location, culture, or simply lifestyle, some of the weirdest and unrelated things have happened simultaneously or in a similar span of time. That realization is, for whatever reason, mind-blowing as it forces you to stop and think about it. That’s what this Reddit thread was trying to wrap its head around, and we’ve rounded up some of the most interesting and absurd moments where history converged.
1. Somehow, Sharks Have Found a New Way to Be Terrifying
Very few animals have survived, mostly intact, from prehistoric times to now. Mostly creatures of the sea and birds–birds are, in fact, the descendants of a smaller subspecies related to the T-Rex. None seem to have lived quite as long as the shark, however.
Sharks are so old, they existed even before Saturn got its rings… 100 million years ago. Sharks are, by comparison, estimated to be about 420 million years old. They have survived multiple mass extinctions and evolved into the horror movie beasts of today. Fortunately, they have gotten smaller over the ages, though it hardly makes them less terrifying. At this rate, they will probably outlive us.
